Barbara Rose Update

July 2024 Updates

First, we'd like to say that Barbara Rose is safe and back receiving the care she badly needs. Hopefully, the events of last month will quickly become a distant memory. We have kept all the notes left and did our best to search the lighthouse and rental cabins for anything out of the ordinary. Now, here is what happened as best we've been able to piece together.

June 18: Barbara Rose managed to escape from Herrington Heights, a special hospital for patients suffering from mental illness on the Sheridan Institute campus. It was during a change of caregiver shifts at 10:30 pm. She had access to an open window on the second floor. She managed to leap or drop without injury. It wasn't until close to midnight when the staff discovered her absence.

June 19:

9 am - Video footage from the local Cents-Go-Far store shows her looking into the store windows. The store did not open until 10 am and the small parking lot was vacant.

10 am - Staff at the library make a call to the police concerning a young woman, barefoot and in a soiled robe in the historical section. The woman was asking to see microfilm on papers from 1912, when the Herrington Crescent first began publishing. At the time, there were claims large crows were attacking farm animals. One particular story involved a ghostly figure carrying a wine casket directing the birds at dusk.

The woman seemed adamant there was more to all this and insisted on seeing the old records. She became agitated when the microfilm machine was not in working order. The woman left before police arrived.

3 pm - This same woman is seen on a neighborhood porch camera heading north.

June 20 (summer solstice):

6 am - We received a call from the renters in Jamaica Inn that someone is pounding on the door and front windows. The renters decide not to approach this person. The description fits Barbara, in a more tangled and distraught manner.

11:45 am - We scout the area around the Manderley cabin. No rentals were scheduled and the cabin is locked. We didn't find anything out of the ordinary within the cabin. Outside, we found a number of dead crows. It appeared their heads were twisted off and left rotting along the path towards the water.

4:15 pm - I went into our wine cellar to make a selection for dinner. We prepared a meal for the renters in Jamaica Inn, mainly to sooth any hurt feelings from the morning. On the east wall, a number of bottles had been removed. One was smashed open. Nothing else was touched. I discovered a handwritten note saying:

"Here! Here! Behind here! The horror never dies, rather it hides!"

I made my report to the police, who were now escalating this case. More officers from Okaso were being brought in.

June 21:

3:50 am - Barbara Rose is caught attempting to break into the grocery store. Hunger had forced her into extreme panic. The officers were able to subdue her and return her to care.

It has taken us a good month to calm down from this event. We discovered other various notes left for us. No words, but arrow marks. Some on napkins, others on scrapes of paper. They all pointed east. It's yet another mysterious our famous poet has left us with.
