To The Sea

To the sea, to the sea

Each year descends to the sea

Where the dark things swim

And there is no breath

Darkness forever, in the depths

"Lighthouse of Grass", page 17, iii

Farewell, Dearest

My lover was smothered in the sand by the sea

Farewell, I whispered to him

His eyes were wide, surprised

But not long

"Lighthouse of Grass", page 20, vi

A Shell’s Nightmare

The shells on the shoreline scatter
In sand they are remnants of life

Scratches and scars cover their surface

Their saturation washed out long ago

Dreams of the sea echo within them

Perhaps a crest will carry them to the brine

Beneath the shine of the lighthouse

"Lighthouse of Grass", page 2, prologue
